Has anyone ordered from them recently? Was it a good experience? They have a rose I want, but I've read so many mixed reviews.

I've had successful but limited experience with them. I placed a couple of orders with them in 2021 and was satisfied.

Thanks Mike. I was thinking about trying them last year, but decided not to. I'm leaning towards giving it a shot this year and hopefully I won't have any problems.

I ordered 16 roses from Rogue Valley in 2020 after giving up on the nursery several years earlier because of the high mislabeling rate I had experienced over the years (40%). I had heard that the nursery had improved greatly, but that was only partly true. Four of the 16 were mislabeled. That's an alarming 25%, but it's better than 40%, I guess. Still too high for me, though, so I won't be ordering from them again.

I ordered one a couple of years ago with no problems. A friend ordered a half-doz. of one variety in 2021 and I don't recall her mentioning any problems with the order or the condition of the roses.

I used to order from them fairly regularly >15 years ago with no problem, but stopped because I kept reading reports of mislabeled roses and terrible customer service. But in Dec 2022, I ordered two that I'd been on the waiting list for for 5 years, and they sent great plants. One has a small bud on it, so we'll see if they sent the correct rose. Like Zuzu, I'd heard that they'd improved lately... fingers crossed. It'll be at least a week before it opens, but I'll report back.

I have ordered from Rogue Valley several times in the last few years, and so far all of my roses have been correctly labeled.

Thanks everyone!

@SusaninSB Did the bud open yet? Was it the correct plant?

I will probably give it a shot and order, and hope for the best. The rose I want is Persian Sunset, a Ralph Moore Hulthemia. Unfortunately his Hulthemia roses are hard to find, as are many other Hulthemias.

@CS_925 The sepals have just cracked! So far, I can tell it's close to the correct color... I'll let you know tomorrow or Tuesday for confirmation. Fortunately, I'm very familiar with the rose (Bill Warriner), so I'll recognize it. It has been so much cooler than average all winter and spring, so everything is behind in blooming. But it was 85 in Santa Barbara on Friday, so that kicked things up quite a bit! And my maiden Stephen Rulo from Wisconsin Roses opened today... first time seeing it in person... divine! I agree... maybe just go for it, since Mr. Moore's roses are so hard to find.

@CS_925 So sorry I didn't get back to you about my RVR rose sooner! Every time I saw it, I thought "I've got to to reply to that person", but the thread moved down, so I forgot. Anyway, it's definitely the correct rose.

No worries! Thanks for the update! I'm happy to hear it's the correct rose.

The last time I checked, the rose I wanted is out of stock but I'll order when it is available again.

I ordered with success from RVR a long time ago (around 2005-6): no mislabeling, good healthy plants for the band (quart) size that they offer. Last year (2022), I ordered two roses, Just Joey and the floribunda Chic. When I took them out of the box, I noticed that a huge amount of root ball dirt had fallen out of each pot, it was loose in the box--not a good sign. When I eased each plant out of the pot, to my dismay, there was a very small, immature root system, not at all strong enough to withstand shipping or transplanting, it was about 1/3 the size of a normal root ball for this size of plant, with most of the dirt fallen away. I immediately took pictures and sent them to RVR customer service, requesting they send me WELL-ROOTED plants (the varieties were still in stock). They responded that they would send my email for review to the owner Janet. Well, I waited and waited, with no response, then started emailing repeatedly over the next 9 days. I never did get a response back from Janet or anyone else. Finally after about 3 weeks, with no notification email, I noticed my bank statement had been credited. This was nice, but what I REALLY wanted was healthy replacement plants. I also wanted responsive and timely customer service, which I did not get. Since then, I've kind of written off this nursery, I would ONLY order from them if they offered a rose that was not available anywhere else. My feeling is there's no excuse for poor customer service, nor shipping plants that won't survive. (BTW, I ended up potting up these poor specimens in the interim, while I waited for a response from the company, and both died). Regarding band-size roses, my go-to is High Country Roses, the root systems are invariably excellent, and all my plants have thrived, I've been ordering from them for about 5 years now, and it is always consistent. Plus they offer a 15% ARS discount, which is nice!
