I ordered with success from RVR a long time ago (around 2005-6): no mislabeling, good healthy plants for the band (quart) size that they offer. Last year (2022), I ordered two roses, Just Joey and the floribunda Chic. When I took them out of the box, I noticed that a huge amount of root ball dirt had fallen out of each pot, it was loose in the box--not a good sign. When I eased each plant out of the pot, to my dismay, there was a very small, immature root system, not at all strong enough to withstand shipping or transplanting, it was about 1/3 the size of a normal root ball for this size of plant, with most of the dirt fallen away. I immediately took pictures and sent them to RVR customer service, requesting they send me WELL-ROOTED plants (the varieties were still in stock). They responded that they would send my email for review to the owner Janet. Well, I waited and waited, with no response, then started emailing repeatedly over the next 9 days. I never did get a response back from Janet or anyone else. Finally after about 3 weeks, with no notification email, I noticed my bank statement had been credited. This was nice, but what I REALLY wanted was healthy replacement plants. I also wanted responsive and timely customer service, which I did not get. Since then, I've kind of written off this nursery, I would ONLY order from them if they offered a rose that was not available anywhere else. My feeling is there's no excuse for poor customer service, nor shipping plants that won't survive. (BTW, I ended up potting up these poor specimens in the interim, while I waited for a response from the company, and both died). Regarding band-size roses, my go-to is High Country Roses, the root systems are invariably excellent, and all my plants have thrived, I've been ordering from them for about 5 years now, and it is always consistent. Plus they offer a 15% ARS discount, which is nice!
