So I've had this plant for about eight months, and it's always seemed pretty happy and healthy. Up until now it's just been growing straight upwards. This morning I noticed it's suddenly started leaning to one side and it looks like it's sending out some new growth from the bottom. Is this okay? It seems like a strange place to be sending out new growth; it doesn't seem like there is a lot of room for it to expand here. Is there anything I can do to help it? Or is it fine how it is? Any feedback is very much appreciated!

Just branching, I think. If it were mine, I'd leave it alone for a while. The plant may be leaning due to it's growth causing more weight for the stem to support. You might try increasing the amount of light it gets and make sure to rotate the container every couple of days.

Yeah, some of these plants branch at the base just like that, and some of them will tend to go a little sideways over time. I think what you're seeing is more or less normal. When in doubt, if this is an indoor plant, the more light the better. That will tend to help the plant grow more compact and sturdy. But from the looks of things, I'd say your succulent is getting decent light.

Maybe a slightly bigger pot sometime this season? Or drive a stake in there if you want to reinforce an upright habit. It looks pretty happy to me. Smiling
