I haven't personally grown Patio Choice but I do know it's a much larger "micro".

Thinking I was going by the picture and description on the VS website. I started the seeds 03/01 and they are already 8" tall. I think they might exceed the projected 15" - 18" in height.

I'll be curious to know how those go! Patio's Choice is a hybrid that we buy directly as seed from the introducer of the variety.

Will keep you in the loop. I am going to have to change my potting plans, think I will need something larger. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm going to try a microdwarf tomato or two on the windowsill of my MIL's assisted living apartment. Should be a conversation piece even if it doesn't produce tomatoes, but I'm hopeful.

Alice, one thing about growing microdwarf tomatoes is that you could probably pull them inside the house if necessary to keep them away from the bears. Or will you be adding a "bear baffle" to your deck?

I grew Orange Hat years ago and yes, it was a windowsill sized tomato. I understand Rosy Finch is a 3 gallon sized plant and by the looks of the Patio Choice Yellow it will be a minimum of 3 gallons. So, there are great variances in what are called micro dwarfs.

Here are my three dwarfs (dwarves?) Roselle Purple, Firebird Sweet and Blazing Beauty. They were started 03/01. It has been very warm here this week abut we may still have some cold weather. However, Craig Lehoullier said tomatoes can handle temps in the 30's for short periods so I am gambling that these little guys will be OK. I also have some micros, Rosy Finch and Patio Choice Yellow and I had planned on putting them in smaller pots but they are turning out to be pretty large so I will have to adjust my thinking.

Great selections. How has Rosella Purple done for you so far? I find that one to be the most challenging of all tomatoes to get to survive the seedling stage.

Interesting, so far Rosella is OK but I'll keep an eye on it. I have a spare to watch also.

I just seeded Dwarf Eagle Smiley (new to me), Rosella Crimson, and Pink Passion. The latter was a favorite last year, sweet with an almost silky texture.

i have micros Orange Hat and Tiny Tim in my new Greenstalk vertical planters, Rosy Finch in 3-4 gallon containers nearby. it's been mild since I planted those a few days ago, but I'm watching the forecast so I can cover if needed.

Saw this on FB, how many times a day do you check your seedlings?

I have a 1020 sized heat mat on the back of my kitchen island so I can check seeds every time I pass! Once they germinate, they go to the basement light shelves.

I have Dwarf Johnson's Cherry growing like crazy now that the weather is getting warmer. We're supposed to be mid-80's all week. It's almost 3 weeks since I planted them at about 2in. tall.

Btw, Alice I planted the seeds of these on Feb 28th so just before you did yours.Put them out in the Earth Box at 2in. on March 27th. Heat makes them take off, so keeping your sun room as cool as possible will probably help to slow them down a bit until your nights are warm enough.

What about using an Earth Box for your tomatoes on the deck? Seems like 3 micro-dwarfs or 2 dwarf tomatoes will go in an Earth Box nicely. My two DJC's grew beautifully in my Earth Box, they just overwhelmed the cage I put them in.

I'm going to try Rosy Finch next fall for my winter tomatoes and see if they will stay inside my beautiful cages that turned out to be too small for the "regular" dwarf tomatoes.

Right now our days are in the 70's/80's and the nights are in the 50's so I am not worried. Craig LeHoullier said they can take temps into the 30's for short periods so all is good if we get more cold weather. We have family coming for a visit and it is supposed to be in the 60's this weekend. Thumbs down

Forecast is similar here. Lows around 42 this weekend -- peppers would hate it, but tomatoes will be fine. The micro tomatoes I planted out have already pushed some new growth!

I am hardening off these dwarfs:

For my garden:
Mountain Princess
Rosella Crimson
Bella Rosa

For friends:
Tiny Tim
Shimofuri

For adoption:
New Big Dwarf

Two of the Rosella Crimson I mislabeled Bella Rosa; I'm hoping that there will be noticeable differences between the two. . . at the transplant stage!! Crossing Fingers! Whistling Crossing Fingers! Crossing Fingers!

Bet, I've grown Bella Rosa the last two years, and it is not a dwarf, but it is a Determinate. So you should be able to tell it apart from your Rosella Crimsons. The real dwarf varieties have very stocky seedlings with strong, thick stems. Once they start to take off, Bella Rosa will be much taller.
