I bought a hibiscus at Lowes last year and it had purple foliage. It is barely starting to sprout now and it is bright green. Will it turn purple or what's the deal? I feel jipped !

Perhaps you have a red sheild hibiscus-google it.

well the foliage looked like that but the flower was more pink than red. I bought it at Lowes as a hardy type, it doesn't look like the red sheild one is very hardy. I guess if it doesn't start doing something more soon I will try to return it. I know they like warmer evenings than we have been having, so maybe it is the low temps. Does red sheild start out with green foliage?

Well it finally grew to a nice size over the summer and got some bronze-ish sort of color to it, but not as much as it had when I bought it. I guess maybe a difference in the soil or sun maybe. It had a huge mulberry colored bloom on it so I was pleased.
