Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of varieties that had names relating to Star Trek or Star Wars. As the name suggests I am trying to start a themed iris patch and any bit of help would be great!

Oh, would also love to know if anyone else has started a themed section and what that theme is! I think it's such a great idea.

I actually did have a Star Trek - Star Wars - anything spacey iris garden around 15 years ago and had a number of the irises listed above. It was a fun thing to do!

Thanks for the acorn, Evelyn! It was fun doing this. I've always been a sci-fi fan. Loved Star Trek, especially the original series. And saw every one of the Star Wars movies. I remember I was dating my hubby at the time of the first Star Wars movie, and we made a trip down to D.C. just to be able to see it on the big screen of the famed Ontario Theater. It was such a treat! When we hit hyperspace, the entire audience cheered.

That picture by Artsee of Skywalker is NOT Skywalker. Skywalker has a yellow and white beard and is not a blended color iris. This is more what Skywalker will look like in your bed:

There is also Wukee:

Princess Leia is a Louisiana iris:
They have different requirements than bearded though.

There is an MTB Pixi-wan Kenobi:

I lost my Beam Me Up Scotty. Beautiful but very hard to find.

I agree that from the registered description of the beard, Artsee's photo of Skywalker is not it, and should be removed from the Skywalker page. Thanks for alerting us to that. I wonder what Arsee's picture is really of, because, whatever it is, I'd sure love to have it! I will substitute the photo in the above thread.

Here is a picture of Millennium Falcon from the database. I had looked for it for my original post, but had not found it because of mis-spelling it. Note that it is quite variable because of the broken color.

You can click on the picture that is wrong, and make a comment calling the attention to one of the administrators then they will take any action needed.

Daisy - I agree that Artsee's is a prettier iris.

Whatever Artsees flower is, I strongly suspect it's descended from Honky Tonk Blues, as is Skywalker. It's got that lovely blue-violet blend.

Starship enterprise is a beautiful iris. Derylin, when you have purchased it in the past, where did you buy from? I keep seeing it is sold out at many vendors.

It's probably sold out fast, as it's really slow grower. After having it for many years and only seeing it bloom a couple of times it died out here.

Starship Enterprise didn't last for me either. Purchased it twice. And I live just a few miles from where it was born. Perhaps it should have gone to the mighty compost pile at Schreiners and a different iris chosen for the name.

Belle,
I think the first 2 or 3 times ,Schreiner's.I bought it one more time several years ago, but I can't be certain where.I have over 500 iris.It is hard to keep track.
I am not sure I still have it.It keeps dying out for me It seems to not be very hardy.
