Anyone else ever buy a new plant 'too late' in the season ... but you don't have a garden bed ready to put it in, or you are not sure (yet) where its new home should be? That would be me...

This is brilliant. I have just kicked three pots of hardy geraniums halfway across the garden because they died over winter altho going into winter perfectly healthy. I left the pots above ground in the cold frame (Zone 6) and despite a mild winter, I suspect the bitter cold we had in December froze them solid and then the mild wet winter rotted them. I bet if they had been below ground none of this would have happened. THANKS for this great information!

Annie,
So sorry to hear you lost your lovely plants! I think we have all been in that situation (somewhere along our years of gardening). I'm very happy to share this with everyone, I am sure I would have lost mine had I not put the pots into the ground. Thumbs up

There are times when I think it would save a lot of time and effort to simply BURN the money instead of buy the plants first *LOL*. I've always lost more pots to winter wet than to summer heat.
