Things seem to be about a week early here, and with some of the nights not long ago in the 20's I'm seeing abnormal stalks on the early ones with small bud counts. No TB's have opened yet though the stalks are starting to show. I'm sure hoping the late bloomers will do better.

I couldn't get these individual shots up the other day. My baby came home with a cold, and I got all distracted.

The initial blooms on Melanie were profuse but a little wimpy. Like... flaccid? (Apologies for word choice).
Thumb of 2024-05-05/MamaFan/cf0a1a
They blooms do not seem to be sticking around for long. However, after the first flush, we are now into full bloom. They seem more robust.

Melanie was pod parent a few years back, to a handful of seeds. I was really gratified to see it, and I've waited the last few years. Now, I believed at the time that it was a cross I made between Melanie and Superstition.

But. I'm just now wondering if maybe Frank Adams got there first...

Neither Superstition nor Frank Adams is diminuitive at all. But, the seedling A is. Thumb of 2024-05-05/MamaFan/a91304

She's cute. I like her.

Nice color on RUFFLED GODDESS (wish it had wider falls, though). SIGNS OF HOPE is interesting. Thanks for the fragrance note on IMBROGLIO.

So many irises, so little room, energy, or time.
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

Super-Mel seedlings are looking more and more to actually be Mel-Adams crosses. who knew?

Mel-Adams A was rosey colored and smelled fantastic.
Thumb of 2024-05-15/MamaFan/83eea3
The form is more rounded, more sturdy than Melanie. I like it. It's short... but it's in a pot-prison. I'll free her in the summer. Melanie is super tall. Mel-Adams cross A is, as of yet, not tall at all.

Mel-Adams cross B flowered as well! The standards are like a midway shade between the Melanie pink and the fawn color that fades to old gold on Frank Adams standards. It's odd. I like it.

Mel Adams cross B:

Form for both is more like Frank Adams than Melanie. Standards are less flimsy.
