This is my peony bed on the terrace. There are five herbaceous peonies and two tree peonies growing in this bed. It is raised for about almost two feet. I would like to have some spring bulbs (e.g., white hyacinths, pastel tulips, white crocuses), and one or two clematises in this bed to look lush. For example, in May, the bed should look somehow like in the picture below.
Hopefully, the tulips will come back next year; that is, it would be nice to have tulips that naturalize. The peonies will grow bigger as this is only their third year in this bed. Three winters ago, I moved them from very unfavourable, shady spots and they have just started taking off. Both tree peonies are newly planted; that is, Blue Sapphire is planted two years ago, and the single white tree peony is planted last year.

My concern is that there are too many plants in the limited space. Are they all going to have enough nutrition? Although they got generous loads of dry leaves every fall, I am not convinced that is going to be sufficient and sustainable. They would benefit from a good organic fertilizer. I was searching for Bulb-tone on the Internet and figured out that Bulb-tone is at least three or four times more expensive in Canada than in the States. I don't know the reason though Confused

Apparently, Miracle Grow has a new organic line of fertilizers. Has anyone tried them yet? Any other suggestions?

Jasmin.. I use liquid fertilizer 1/2 strength every time I water potted plants. Most of the nutrients washes out the bottom. This makes happy campers and lots of blooms thruout their bloom/plant cycle.
Or your can make your own fertilizer tea from aged cattle, chicken ….

I have not seen the new line of MG organics.

What about Jobes organic bulb food? I have used that before and was happy.

Too bad about the price of Bulb tone.
