I'm sure the answer must have been posted here in the past but searching for it might be a major project in itself, so please be so good to humor me.

Of the 32 seeds I planted last fall from my first cross, only 3 have come up so. Is it possible more will come up as the season goes on, or are the rest of them toast?

It's quite possible that you'll see a few more over the next 12 months - probably not many, but I have had the odd couple of seedlings come up a year later.

Looks like another one is coming up. LOL! Of course I'm thinking that the seeds that didn't come up would have been the best iris ever. (The iris version of the fish that got away)

Lynn, give those pots of seeds about three years. Iris seeds can be notoriously slow to germinate.

Yes, they can take a while to germinate. Some crosses will have close to 100% germination, but others might take an extra year or two. Last year when I planted my dwarf seedlings, I threw the used potting soil from the seedling pots into a pile near the seedling bed just to see if any more would germinate. At last count I was up to 20 new seedlings in that spot this spring.

With important crosses I hold the pots over another year or two, especially if I don't get a lot of germination the first spring.

I have heard that Starring took 3 years to germinate. If so, good thing Ghio is patient. Smiling

It's not uncommon for seeds to take more than one year of warm/cold stratification before they germinate.
