This tree has spread prolifically in the Southeast, and because of that it is considered a noxious weed.

Thread OP

"noxious weed", IMHO you are far and away too kind. Were it totally eradicated yesterday, that would not be soon enough. I would be completely candid here but it would not make the cut. A toast to chain saws for all of them!

I agree completely!! Thrilled to report that this tree is gone! 4 years ago! Never have I ever been so happy to hear a chainsaw! And I'm also pleased to say it's been replaced by a Dahoon Holly! Hurray!

Sadly, chain saws do not work, they come right back from the roots or bits of root left if the stump is dug up. Something like Garlon 3A applied to the fresh stump and often 2 or 3 more times over the months *might* eradicate it. It is a shame such an eveil tree has such a beautiful flower.

Actually, we were able to completely eradicate it! Cut it down, and ground the stump! No regrowth whatsoever. Green Grin! Lucky, I guess.

If there is one in the area, you will never be without! The nearest Chinese Tallow tree I've seen is 8 miles from my house and every spring I pull up these seedlings that the birds have delivered. It pays to recognize the seedlings and uproot them immediately.
