Tuning in late here, Gina. Just one observation, the cardboard breaks down much faster in Florida than in Utah for me. Cooler, dryer climate and clay soil in Utah.

I'm sure it will work perfectly for you. But some of the grasses are persistent, just a bother.

Making a new flowerbed by eating down cardboard and/or newspaper over grass, watering it, and covering it with compost and mulch?

I just did, but I'm waiting on perrenial flower seeds I ordered online. Only it's not over grass. It's over a dirt, covered with ancient plastic, covered with gravel, yard. I have an endless supply of rocks, so I made a half-moon shaped rock wall that butts up against the wall that lines my stairs. I soaked pieces of cardboard to lay down before filling with soil.

I'm hoping it works, but if it doesn't, that's okay. I'll post a photo later on. Are you going to give it a try?

This is it. I figure the irises have been growing out of the same stuff for years ... so why not give it a try.
