I still love those old yellow ones, Neal, but I've never gotten so attached to the newer ones.

Pretty, Cinda!

A little off the subject but I'm just getting caught up again have to share my computer with my son and so far it's been 90% him and 10% me Rolling on the floor laughing

Polly just had to look that daylily you mentioned Bodacious Bite since you said it had teeth and OMG it does! It's beautiful!

Kelly hope you see this we were talking about those white veronicas for your bed you are putting together and all of my seedlings are turning out purple Sad I know I had the right seeds in my jug! I had the same problem with Red Fox a bunch of people sent me seeds but they never turned out right such a bummer! Make note to self Veronica seeds do not come true unless you want purple LOL

gardengus I have Strawberry Candy I'm moving it toward the road this fall, so it will be seen more it's such an old one but I love the colors in it and it's so cute! I must say I like the taller daylilies though that's what most of my old ones are I'm not into them much either so I don't have any new ones.

Lea, I've got the same thing going on with Liatris- my white ones have self seeded, and the seedlings are blooming for the first time this year- purple. Hadn't tried seeds from the Veronicas, but most on the market are hybrids, so I'm not surprised.

Liatris are nice, unfortunately the deer really love them & John is trying to outwit those with wire. He plants the New England ones.

I love such a hodgepodge of flowers in my garden, it's hard to pick favorites! As others have said, my favorite tends to be whatever is blooming today. :-)

I do especially appreciate tough, drought/heat tolerant plants that don't need much attention once established. And I like a variety of flower forms and foliage. Daisy-shaped Coneflowers, Heliopsis and Black-eyed Susan, and of course Shasta Daisies. Spikes of Salvia, Lavender, and Veronica. Low-growing Thymes and Lamiums, and plants like Rose Campion and Alpine Catchfly that pop bright little blooms above low foliage. Lilies -- daylilies, asiatic lilies, oriental lilies, for a parade of blooms all summer. Blooming shrubs like lilacs and butterfly bush.

Those are just a few favorite summer-bloomers. I love spring-blooming bulbs, especially daffodils, muscari, and species tulips. As they're winding down, the back area of the perennial bed puts on a show with irises and columbines.

Pick 5 favorites? No can do. Hilarious!

Critter, glad that's been said. With all the new, to me, plants I'm seeing here my "favorites" change about as often as the weather in New England. Right now my favorite is C. Lucifer as it's in bloom. I. ensata Silverband a few weeks ago and Heuchera Snow Angel before that. I have to get specific Neal because I'm a newbie. Bet Louisiana Iris will be on my list next spring.

Right now lilies are my loves. Here's a new one for me Big Brother, an OT. First year flowering is 9" across, and it has a subtle sweet scent.

Not this year, Bev. It's the first year for it, and it's about 4' tall. Probably next year, but the stem seems pretty sturdy.

Delphiniums! I finally got one seedling past the slugs after starting many dozen each year for 2 years. This is its second adult year, and he's a blue/lavender beauty!

Salvia and Penstemon would be two more of my five favorite [P]s, if "wanting-to-grow-them" counts. I started multiple species and varieties of salvia indoors - yet again - but successfully this time.

Salvia nemerosasylvestris "Amethyst Blue" have even put out one bloom per plant. They only have a few leaf pairs and are 5" tall, but blooming. Perhaps they bolted from the stress of starting in a plug tray of 128 cells, then potting up to 3" pots, then going into rather poor soil.

Penstemon, after many indoor trays failed to produce striong seedlings, reponded to Winter Sowing, but I had given up 2 months before they actually emerged. I still have to squint to see those tiny thins, and I doubt they'll be big enough to expose to slugs by Fall. I guess I'll have to overwinter them under lights.

I think that white Alyssum (maritime) and Siberian Wallflowers would have to be my last two favorites - reseeders, not perennial. But they can survive the slugs! That makes them perenials in my yard.

I sure feels good when you get an "at risk" plant to bloom. All of a sudden it doesnt matter if the plant is six feet tall and has 12 bloom stems.
I have 1 really good larkspur after 3 seasons of direct sow '09, self seed '10 and I will collect seeds this month and direct sow again due to compost spreading on all gardens.

Do yo have a photo of your delph?

Duhh, after years of trying, I forgot to take a picture before taking most of the spikes as cutflowers! I'll snap what's left but it'll take a few days to get around to it.

I have gotten a wealth of ideas here. I have a lot of varieties of echinacea, asiatic and ornamental lilies (mondarda, which has all changed from red to purple???), hardy geraniums cover the ground and red valerian blooms all summer, tall phlox, coreopsis, sage and zinnias although not much success with them this year.
