Also, while googling, I see no solid red STDs, is that a holy grail?

It depends on what you mean by solid red. There are several SDB's that are red "selfs" (meaning all one color). Examples:







Some are listed as wine and some as red. They say there is no "true red" iris, but that depends on the definition of "True red."

To answer the question in the title of the thread, there are MDBs and SDBs. Miniature Dwarfs (MDBs) are up to 8 inches tall and are considered "dwarfs". They fall under the Dwarf Iris Society for things like awards. Standard dwarfs (SDBs) are 8 to 16 inches tall and are considered median irises.
