Last year I tried growing cucumbers in my backyard. Several good-sized fruit grew but all were bright yellow. After doing some research I decided that I had overwatered the plants. I cut down on watering but subsequent fruit still came in yellow. FWIW, my backyard soil is quite dirty including broken glass, which is apparently not uncommon here in Brooklyn. I'd love to try again this year!

Were the fruit round or long? There is a yellow cucumber that grows round and is called lemon cucumber. Pretty good tasting too.

Asking to move thread to Vegetables and fruits forum.

The fruit sprouted as yellow, grew long and thick, and stayed yellow.

too bad we can't see a a picture. I can think of no explanation, unless what was planted wasn't actually 'green cucumbers."
Where did you get the seeds or plants?
Plant it and they will come.

Plant it and they will come.

The plants grew quite large. I had a couple of plants growing in a trellis and a couple of others on the ground. The plant grew large leaves.

I can't be sure of course, but I wonder if you got summer squash tagged as cucumber. Very small seedings could be mistaken for each other.
This is a very cucumber shaped one.

I'd say cucumber leaves never get as big as your hand with fingers spread, while squash leaves do.
Cucumber leaves are roughly rounded, leaves with lobes would be squash.
Cucumbers have tendrils to climb, bush squash don't, they lay on the ground or could lean up against something. (maybe bush cucumbers don't have tendrils?)
Plant it and they will come.

What did they taste like and how did they look inside? Juicy? Seeds?
I'm thinking Sally's got the answer — tags on young cucurbits are easily mixed up
