Trellises, fencing, birdbaths, statuary, and many other non-plant items add charm and permanent structure to the Cottage Garden. Let's discuss them here!

I find accessorizing a bit challenging. To my eye, its a fine line between just right and cluttered, but I end up with an incomplete appearance.

This garden seat is working for me, but I still feel like this bed needs something else. There's a white Clematis in the bed I'd hoped would climb the spruce tree, but it doesn't want to comply at all, LOL. A white trellis may be in order!

I like that seat also but didn't know for sure what it was.

For years I had no idea what it was, LOL. Just thought they were some kinda of lidless jar! Something I learned last year was to be sure to look inside before sitting on it....there was a wasp nest inside! Thinking back...it must have looked hysterical when I did that!

I'm with Veronica, I need more accessories in the garden! Finally got a bird bath last fall, and have one little statue, and a few trellises. Working on getting an urn to put some flowers in to set next to my bench on the new 'terrace' area. Will do pictures later :)

One thing I really want to do is find something to put all my 'hens and chicks' in. I've seen some beautiful arrangements, but haven't found the right container. Anyone have any good recycling type ideas for containers? Keeping my eye out for an old cracked bird bath, but haven't gotten lucky yet! Meanwhile, I have the poor things tucked into any container I could find including old milk jugs from WS... they really need a permanent home!

I like strawberry jars for hens and chicks. That is the only thing I have found that the strawberry jars are good for. Maybe strawberries ????? Rolling on the floor laughing

Good thought... when they have chicks, do they trail down the pot then?

Here's the area that needs an urn, or pot of some sort. Debating how tall it should be... maybe to the height of the bench seat?

Gorgeous spot Kelly! I kinda think one of those elevated urns with a pillar base would be scrump there. I'm thinking something 4-5' tall would be nice. Have you seen Leawoodgardener's pics on DG? He's got one he puts tulips in for spring and annuals for summer, it's gorgeous!

I'll have to have a look! I can't imagine something that tall... are you thinking behind the bench a little on the right?

I was thinking in the mulched area in front of the bench. I've only seen his in pictures, so it may just be about birdbath height. The plants would give it more height too.

Ah, wish it was mulch Smiling So far just my lasagna bed ingredients, some daffs and a few perennials, but lots of plants heading that way in a few weeks!

This is what I'm thinking will go there, if all the seedlings make it. Quite a few are already there, just really small. The Gardenia and Camellia may take a while to hide the Utility box (just out of the picture), so I'm considering a small bit of 3' fence with some vines growing up it back there.. not sure.

Didn't draw in all the flagstones, but the whole 'terrace' area is flagstones with dwarf mondo grass between them, and some sedum and thyme scattered around the edges.

Nice picture Kelly.. That area is going to be extra attractive when it fills in.
I didn't get a picture in your most recent post it didn't open. actually it was blank from the get go.
And yes the chicks just trail down and they multiply nicely in the top of the pot. I don't have a picture. I left mine outdoors last fall so they have to be brought back up to speed.

Thanks! Keeping fingers crossed. Now I'm figuring out what seedlings aren't going to make it, and where I can insert some mums from a coop that will be here this week! Flexible, but at least I have the beginnings of a plan this year!
