I just spoke with Bob Riedmuller at Altman Plants. He was away from the office for a week or so, but he got my voice message this morning. He has the link to ATP, this post, and is going to talk with Rene, the succulent manager. He did note that yes, S mexicanum blooms yellow and he did check the listing in the on-line catalog....yep it says blooms white....thinks that may have been an entry glitch that got away....As soon as they figure out what is what, he will get back in touch with me.

Hurray! Wahoo, we are getting closer to the answer to the mystery. I love it when the nurseries are happy to help find the answers. That's a good nursery for sure. Thumbs up

Yes, considering the volume of business Altman's does, it was nice to be heard and assured of follow up. In addition to my delight with the over all health of the plants, I am delighted to say that dealing directly was a pleasant experience. I give them a Thumbs up on that.

Good evening. This is a copy of the e-mail Mr Reidmuller sent to succulent and growing managers re info that came back to him from the webmaster at SedumPhotos.net re my plant. He followed it up with a call to let me know they are doing further research into it and he will get back to me as soon as they are all in agreement. For the time being mine is being tagged white blooming Sedum spiralis....will have a more solid ID for it before long. They are also looking into Villadia batesii possibilities.

"This was the email I got regarding our Sedum mexicanum. After looking on the sedumphotos.net I'm pretty sure it's what he's calling Sedum 'Spiral Staircase', He Says:

It's not sure as to where this variety comes from. It could be either a hybrid or a species. If it's a species, it is probably from Mexico. It is very floriferous with relatively large white flowers. It was named 'Spiral Staircase' because of the spiral arrangement of the leaves. Evergreen.

Check it out and see what you think http://www.sedumphotos.net/v/s...

Bob"

It does look like it could be Spiral Staircase. Remember there can be some differences in the leaves due to light, soil and temperature.

I agree, the only difference is Sedum Spiral Staircase puts out most pink tinged flowers or white with pink tinged centers...my guy got no pink....but yes, it came from a full sun CA environment to a shelf with tons of other plants inside the garden center at Lowe's...now it gets full direct sun from morning til about 2PM and then full sun again about 4PM til sunset....so it may be a bit confused.

Yes...but I have learned...do nothing different...it is happy, it is blooming and growing. When i get too attentive things tend to go downhill....so ATFred will continue his life of benign neglect Whistling
