A Love for Annual Vines from Seed

By Joannabanana
May 26, 2013

There are many annual vines that are very easy to start from seed. Some of these vines are enormous and will give you a gorgeous vertical display in the right spot. Most annual vines can be started from seed early, indoors, and/or direct sowed after the danger of frost is past. Many are suitable for either container gardening or directly in the ground.

Hi Allan,

I didn't have a message that you had posted these in response to the article, so very sorry that I did not see these wonderful pictures until now. GREAT photos!! Please tell us, which vines are in each picture. I would love to create a similar display.

Joannabanana, fe fi bo boanna !

I'm glad you like my pictures. I'm in zone 6. I started Clarke's Heavenly Blue,Grandpa Ott, and Scarlett o' Hara Morning Glory from seed in flats. I've found they don't do well until it is constantly warm, like mid June, here. I try to transplant while disturbing the roots as little as possible. The ones that grew the best were the ones that self seeded from last years plants ! They toss thousands of seeds ! They are invasive if not maintained which is easy if you take a few minutes every few days. But I'm usually out there pickin' at something anyway !
