I like those 1 gallon nursery pots for creating 'starter plants'.
Anything smaller... is impossible to keep moist enough to keep alive.
Most years I filled the nursery pots with garden soil...
This year, I've experimented with using straight chicken compost... the compost has worked exceptionally well.
I've been setting out tepary beans, cherokee tears beans and watermelon (Art Combe's Ancient) over the last week.
Still have a bunch of sweet potato slips in a large pot that need to be set out...
When my sweet potatoes developed bud growths, I placed in large pot, covered with chicken compost... They're about ready to go now...
