I've found several buds chewed off, half eaten and lying next to the plants. I have fencing around some of my roses to keep rabbits from damaging them, but, the chipmunks can climb over these. I don't want to harm the little creatures, but, want to protect my new roses that are still low to the ground. Any good ideas that have worked for others in the past would be highly appreciated.

That's a pretty good idea. I could wrap the tulle around the round fences and I doubt the little critters could climb up that. Thanks, Elena. I've found 4 brand new buds, lying on the ground and chewed on after being broken off the stems. As a new rose grower I was waiting with baited breath for those buds to open. Thank You!

I have heard that most animals hate the smell of mint, so you could also try getting some mint or peppermint extract and sprinkling a little around the bush.

I have fences coming from Amazon, but, I think they can climb up them. So, yes, I'm looking for something to deter them. Hard to imagine something that smells as good as mint would stop a hungry critter. Thanks for the suggestion.

Patricia, not sure that you would like to go that far, but our groundhog does not like smell of the Red Fox Urine (smells awful Drooling ), we also closed with barrier all potential holes under our fence.
Glad he is not interested in roses, just salads and cucumbers.

Predator urine is a great idea. I can get some at local stores and I'm going tomorrow. I forgot I used that ages ago for squirrels that were eating my tomatoes. Thanks again, Elena. I like this idea better than using tulle around the fences I have around some of my roses.

Sometimes human male urine helps to deter critters. I only say male, due to the ease of application *Blush*

Had to laugh at that, Susan. I live with my sister...no males here. How about a female dog?

Thank you!
