This rose garden in downtown Sacramento is one of my favorites. After having breakfast downtown on the 4th this month, I was curious how the roses were faring since it was the second weekend in a row of 100F temps. I found them in very good shape overall which means they are healthy, well-watered and cared for roses. Amazingly, our party of 8 were the only ones to be at the Garden the first 10 min. we were there at 10 a.m. Here's what it looked like:

There are over 650 rose plants including six trellised climbers. It was upgraded during the pandemic and a ceremony was held this spring. They are now in the process of putting new labels with the names of the roses. I will go through my photo library and try to add photos taken at other times.

Just tried to add another post and I was up to around 10 photos and
lost it. Will try again another time. Is there a limit on photos in one post?

Ok, I am going to try again. These two roses stood out to me in past visits for beauty and fragrance and I added them to my own rose collection:

Since I am afraid I could lose the photos again before they are posted, I will end this post here.

Very nice. I wish we had a public garden like that anywhere around N.E. GA.
It's a rose!!! It has nothing to do with life and death.

The above photos were taken this spring and here are some more views and roses that caught my eye or the scent impressed me:

Scattered here and there throughout the Garden are peace poems by students helping to create a peaceful ambiance:

Ken, I feel fortunate to have this and a few others close by and hope to post more photos of visits there.

Rosemary, thanks for sharing photos of such a good place. Over the Moon just blows me away! What's the last light pink/lavender rose of your first post?

So far it looks like I can't find other pictures I might have before this year of the Capitol Peace Rose Garden.. I had an unfortunate happenstance of losing all of my photos taken between March and October of last year and can't find any of visits before that. The rosarian that created and maintains it for city, T.J. David, wanted to create an oasis in the middle of the city where people can feel enveloped in nature's tranquility for the few minutes they might be there. For that reason, the roses are moderately winter pruned and while maintained with regular deadheading and fertilizing are allowed to grow high through the summer and fall season obscuring the cityscape outside of the park. On my last visit this month, I noticed a homeless person had pitched their tent on the sidewalk right next to the front street side entrance to the Garden. Can you blame them?

Gorgeous roses and garden. BTW, Rosemary, I have Firefighter and it's scent is wonderful. Also, it stays well in a vase with the scent remaining even when the bloom starts falling apart.
Thanks for the beautiful pics!

Blue Girl. It's a fragrant lavender rose which I also have.

Annie, I think Firefighter is a rose I would like both because it's fragrant, and I understand it falls into the "nearly thornless: category!

It's not thornless, but, has very few thorns and those it has aren't nasty. It is very hardy and grows new red growth very quickly. I planted it May 6th and it has more than tripled it's height. I think you'd love it. So far I've had 8 blooms, which, for a new rose is pretty darn good. When I have one in a vase I have to keep stopping what I do and smell it. Grin
