Thread OP

My neighbour was giving away this umbrella plant and said it might need saving. It smelt awful and I suspected root rot. After gently prying away the soil, this is the state I found it in. I'm not sure where all the roots are?! Any advice about whether I can save this plant or is it doomed? Sad

Hi & welcome!

I would cut off the brown part at the tip and stick these stems back into fresh soil all the way to the bottom. Remove a few of the lowest leaves if you need to (don't bury any leaves.) You could do them as-is, or remove the top half (halves) and stick them in soil also to have more plants that are more compact. I don't know whether you prefer tall and skinny, or more of a rounded shape.
The golden rule: Do to others only that which you would have done to you.
