Food shortages due to bee loss?

"Electromagnetic fields (EMFs)—Researchers have discovered that when a cellular phone is placed near a hive, the radiation generated by it (900-1,800 MHz) is enough to prevent bees from returning to them, according to a study conducted at Landau University several years ago.1"

This is very sad. About the only thing that I can do,--- is to try and grow a diverse plant population.
The whole factory farm thing with all of its monocultures is actually not as good as the agri busineses
make it to be.

BIODIVERSITY IS NATURE"S PLAN

Let us go back to her plan!
Mindy has lists of suitable plants in her articles.

I found it for June. I noticed there are articles describing bee-friendly plants for the different months.

I suppose what we should do when, we are planning our gardens, is to go through Mindy's lists and
include some of each month's plants in our gardens. If we do not already have them.

Mindy's lists would be a start.

And these steps from the Mercola article:

Quote:

"How You Can Help Protect the Bees

If you would like to learn more about the economic, political and ecological implications of the worldwide disappearance of the honeybee, check out the documentary film Vanishing of the Bees. If you’d like to get involved, here are four actions you can take to help preserve and protect our honeybees:

Support organic farmers and shop at local farmer's markets as often as possible. You can "vote with your fork" three times a day. (When you buy organic, you are making a statement by saying "no" to GMOs and toxic pesticides.)
Cut the use of toxic chemicals in your house and on your lawn, and use only organic, all-natural forms of pest control.
Better yet, get rid of your lawn altogether and plant a garden or other natural habitat. Lawns offer very little benefit for the environment. Both flower and vegetable gardens provide excellent natural honeybee habitats.
Become an amateur beekeeper. Having a hive in your garden requires only about an hour of your time per week, benefits your local ecosystem, and you can enjoy your own honey! Worldofbeekeping.com,7 and beekeeping.org8 are but two websites that can help you get started."

And I think there are some suggestions for starting your own bee hives on this site, as well.

My "lawn" is almost gone.
I did attend a workshop on bee keeping.
It is difficult in the city and more involved than I could cope with,
so I'll help by growing plants for others' hives.

I have seen a few European honey bees.
What I see a lot of is our native pollinators. The tiny pollinators really love the daylilies.

Still waiting for the Squash Bees that pollinate my squash type plants. Had tons of them at the old house and have not seen any here so far.
I am surrounded by corn/soy fields and they use chemicals.
If you would have a mind at peace, a heart that cannot harden, go find a door that opens wide upon a lovely garden.
