Thread OP

Hi, I'm new here, but I've been obsessed with monsteras forever! I was lucky enough to get a massive leaf, and it's been water propagating since 26th May - the root growth has been so so slow but I'm figuring that's because there's a massive leaf to support. I've got a lot of love invested in this cutting so I'm happy to be patient, and the roots are slowly growing. However, what concerns me at the moment is that the second leaf has started to go brown and yellow at the edges. What should I do??????? Thank you for any advice I really love this beautiful leaf and want it to survive and grow Lovey dubby

You have a Monstera deliciosa large form..your photos don't show the cutting itself, which is really the most important part of this equation. It it a too cut? Or a cutting taken from the middle of the stem?

It will be very hard for that one single root to support those 2 leaves. It's a race against time and the leaves will lose. If this is a top cut that has a spiral meristem to continue growing, those existing leaves should be sacrificed. Or at the very least cut in half.

If it's a mid cut and it's going to have to continue growth via producing a new shoot, the same thing holds true

Thank you Gina I've seen your replies before and respect your advice and knowledge! It's a top cutting. I'll remove one leaf completely tonight, the one that isn't the latest leaf. Does it matter how far up the stem I cut it? Many thanks
