I have been so focused on perennials, that I haven't had much time on annuals. However, I found the Celosia (Celosia Plumosa) to be extremely pleasing to my eye, so I bought and planted seven of them in a pot:

I have checked ATP database, and I see variants, but the tag on my seven beauties doesn't have one Sad It simply says, Celosia. It was bought at a store, so I guess I don't expect expanded information versus buying it at a nursery Hilarious! Any ideas on exactly what the variant of this plant I bought is? If it helps, go to Lowes.com and the plant code is L17148. Thanks! Smiling

Pat, I grow celosia as well. I used to just grow the Chinatown Red which has a beautiful bright red stem as well as a bright red plume, very similar to your picture. Now I do the Bombay, Pampas and other varieties. I use lots of celosia for fillers in my cut flower bouquets. I start mine from seed but it will reseed very well. I have lots of volunteers in the garden. Mine is just starting to bloom. I will take some photos when they are open a bit more so you can see. I especially love the green plumes. And they blossom ALL SUMMER!!!

Very nice Arlene, I can't wait to see what yours look like at full bloom!! Hurray! I'm still so very new to gardening (three years and running Hilarious! ) but learning so much here on ATP! I just wish the tag said Chinatown Red or something else, but it just says Celosia.

Could it be a surprise for what it becomes then?

Mostly the surprise will probably be the colors. Not too many places sell the other varieties. Supposed to rain a lot today but I'll try to take some pictures of it just budding out.

Sorry, haven't forgotten, just haven't gotten to it and when I checked on them, OMG! you can barely see them there is so much grass! But I will try to weed OR take really close ups so you can't see how bad it is! Some pretty pinks, yellows and reds, all kinds of shapes too! Here's the basic China Red I was talking about. (I pulled out some of the grass by it)

But wow, the stems are really strong and tall! Mine are growing but still not even half the height I read they would end up being. They still look good, I'll take a picture when the lighting is better, but I love the red stems, it's out of the ordinary of what I have with all green stems with my other plants Smiling

The red stems is the reason I like it so much. For some reason all my celosia this year is really tall. All the better for cutting though! They love the heat so your's may take off yet, but they probably shouldn't be this tall. Or maybe they should...

Yes, the red stems are awesome!! Smiling Luckily this whole week, we are getting not only high heat, but I have them front and center on my balcony display of all plants, which will give them seven or eight hours of full sun yay! Hurray! I thought I read somewhere that the ones I have will get about two feet tall maximum. But then, there are seven of them total in one pot, I hope that isn't stunting their growth? Oh well if so, I think they are great, but I definitely love the red stems yours have too Smiling Smiling Smiling

I doubt being in a pot will stunt them. That variety is probably made for pots.

Very awesome! I'm considering bordering my balcony with Celosia rather than purple and white balloon flowers...decisions, decisions lol Hilarious!

I really like the looks of the China Red. May have to try to find some next year.

The red stems are just amazing! They reseed well also.
