It's a rainy day here.
I strolled the garden walkway yesterday to admire the trellis of Hyascent vines. This is an annual vine in my growing zone 4b, Michigan.
So easy to grow. And, if you save the seeds, free !
Plant the seeds in a sunny location in Spring. Water, if you don't get a rain shower, every couple of days until they sprout. They should be fine on their own from then on with a weekly watering.
The flower stems will develop and blooms will emerge in shades of lavender & purple. Leaves are mostly a dark green. This vine wraps around your support structure as it grows to over 10 feet tall.
As the blooms fade they develope the burgandy bean. These vibrant beans form on a long sturdy stem and make for a nice addition to a bouquet.
Leave some bean pods on the vine to develop & dry to a brown/gray color. Those should be laid out to thoroughally dry for next year's crop.
Wishing you a wonderful garden year.
