When you run the cold water, does it feel cool? The cold tap here feels very warm. Warmer than body temp. Taking "a cold shower" is impossible.

Our tap water is pretty neutral temp when you first turn it on, but it does get colder then if you let it run a bit. The outdoor faucets though seem to be hot water coming out of them until they run to just a neutral temp, those don't ever seem to get cold.

Wish I thought to test it earlier in the week when our index was 110°-115°. Right now we're back to 72°, and overcast all day, so not expecting it even hit 80°.

Unless the remnants of a hurricane head this way, I won't see temps like that for a while.

We're on well water so water from the tap is always cold as it's coming from 300 feet underground. We have another well that is only 60 feet down and it is cold too.

My sister lives in mid Florida and her tap water is always warm no matter how long you run it.

When I lived in Miami, the tap was always warm, now Minnesota, not so much.

East coast of Central Florida here and the tap water is lukewarm almost year round, maybe a tad bit cooler in winter. I guess they can bury the pipes very deep, or they'd be in salt water. Green Grin!

Ours has been warm at first, but once I left it run for a minute, it gets cold.

On the warm side too no matter how long I let it run. I do not drink my tap water. I don't make coffee with it either. After running the tap for a good few minutes the water smells chemically. The local water company is good but they have no control over who says what to treat the water with. Plus they've been sending letters to residents who live in older homes because of a possible lead pipe issue as per our governor Murphy. They've sent out several letters to residents on hoe to test your pipes to see if they're lead. If so you have to have new pipes installed to the main water line under the street. You have to pay for it. Well I do not have the money for that and if our Governor wants it done then he can pay for it with my outrageously high property tax money.

I would feel that way if our taxes were high too. Last year it was $84. Should be getting the bill for this year in about a week or 2. I don't think the property taxes have anything to do with the water since there's a specific charge for water on our utility bill, but I'm not totally sure. It seems like OK water to me, as far as tap goes. I make coffee and cook with it but get bottled for drinking.

I was wondering if plants feel as icky from 91° water as I do. Rain water even if it happens at this time of year is much cooler, probably almost 20° cooler.

NJ property taxes are insane, from what little I know.

Mine's a well, and used to have a pressure tank in the downstairs, so that held some gallons of water that would settle at room temp. Now it is a pump that runs on demand so its pretty straight from the ground.
Plant it and they will come.

We get our water from the Raritan Aquafer and that's up north near the top of the state or beyond. It was ok drinking water until the chemicals got added to it. Now I wouldn't drink it. I use bottled water for making ice and coffee and to drink. And yes Sally NJ taxes are stupid high and when you get the tax bill for yearly quarterly payments it's like a stab in the back. I own my house so I can pay taxes monthly. The new bill will be $668 a month. Taxes went up around $600. Most of the "pie" are school taxes which everyone is rebelling against. Ridiculously high for a school district that is not churning out rocket scientists and brain surgeons. We have the highest paid superintendent and the man doesn't even live in this twp. My taxes are at $8026. When we moved back to Camden County the taxes were $2300.

And I thought ours pushing $2k was bad. Blinking I think $700 of ours is school tax too. When you reach 70 here (65 next county over), you don't have to pay school tax anymore (also, if you're disabled you're omitted from paying school tax).

I think our county is pretty good about water. I read their water reports every year and the couple times we had an issue with what looked like brown water (magnesium buildup), they came and flushed the fire hydrant down the road within a couple hours of calling.

But, I still give my hamster bottled spring water and we use a brita water filter. nodding I can tell the difference between tap water and filtered water though. Thinking It's not that it tastes bad, I just can tell it tastes different somehow. In the summer though, sometimes it smells really chlorine-ish. I notice it more when I'm using an outside spigot though than inside using a faucet.

Ham, if only they'd give the seniors a tax break! I could cut my work hours and save for retirement. I think it's downright mean to tax seniors who are already on a tight budget. I could apply for a tax freeze through the state but that only stops my taxex from going higher and I would have to reapply every year. A crock of crap if you ask me.

Sad Our neighbor got it taken off his property taxes and passed away a year or two later. Like... yay (for the short tax break). Sighing!

Hey all,
i live in chicago. we have lake michigan water treated with 5 or so chemicals. fluoride is one of them as is chlorine. I posted a link to a water quality report- hope it made it thru. tap water is great here. gets very cold.
people don't agree with the fluoride. it can be bad for kids in the amount it's treated with. chlorine can be also.
the thing with using it for watering plants, there are salts in it when it evaporates. hence, the white powdery remnants on clay pots. the salts are not really good for plants.
so, my solution is to collect rainwater run off. i live in a large condo building and the run off is from the roof and metal balconies above me. i filter and boil it. seems to be good for now. salt residue on my terra cotta planters is greatly reduced, not entirely, but by a lot. sometimes when we don't get rain i have to buy bottled distilled water. there are some chemicals that do not evaporate when water sits out. the chlorine we use is one. i'm sure i don't boil out all of the chemicals, but at least it is now sanitized and able to be drunk.
hope i'm doing enough. my plants seem to like it.
here's a bit on the chemicals.

Beautiful plants! Love that wall color too!

I don't do anything to rain water before using it. When I have some, that is what I use. A few times per year I try to arrange plants so they get rained on. I use about 50 gallons of water per day for plants during the summer. The tap here has a lot of lime and the usual chlorination and fluoride. Most plants don't seem to notice that stuff, but I could have better looking Dracaenas if they didn't get tap water most days.
