Thread OP
Dallas, TX
I have a 2 year old evergreen sumac. It is already 5' tall. I am sure it will reach 6' before winter. I want to grow it as a tree, not a bush.

The main stem and the branches are all very flimsy. I have a few stakes supporting the stem and branches. Without the stakes, the plant will naturally become a bush. If anyone has an evergreen sumac, please advise if the branches will eventually harden in a year or two. Or if I should give up to get a tree out of the plant.

EDIT: The question was answered through Tree Mail with member ricelg, who had an evergreen sumac with a straight single trunk.
