I tip my hat to you. . So, it seems most of us have come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as a weed nodding not even Bermuda grass. Thank you for reminding me that cows love to munch on Bermuda and fill their tummies.
AaaaaH! If this thread has been shifted why is it saying at least on my end, Site Talk forum? Blinking
Thanks.

gardengus said:I am not sure we would have to condemn a plant as a weed but a forum that discussed what they looked like and their habits and how to get rid of the unwanted plants in the garden setting could be informative.
It could also call out the eatable ''weeds'' such as purselane is a very tasty and nutritious weed here.
I have often told people you don't have to know the name of every plant in the garden just the weeds and pull them Smiling

Agreed and I think a weed forum would be helpful. It took me a month to id one here by googling the characteristics.

dormantsrule: You can post photo's of weeds for identification on the Plant ID Forum; I've had a few weeds identified lately. Green Grin!

Well, since I can't think of any wildflower that's a weed, I don't think wildflowers and weeds fit together as a forum. Although the wildflower forum seems a fine place to discuss weeds, just like the thread Bonehead started over there.

I agree that the definition of a weed is any plant growing where its not wanted.

Christine, I meant no disrespect for native wildflowers, which I am trying to encourage and incorporate into my gardens. Sometimes, however, I find it difficult to figure out which plants are true natives, and which ones are invasives. And, that can change from region to region.

I agree Christine, great conclusion here Smiling I guess I started all this thinking with the Canadian Thistle in mind as well as the purple loosestrife too...the thistle is useless from what I have been learning, takes about five years to totally kill (I watched a tv show on Indiana plants and invasives lol)...But I like Deb setting up a place for discussion, so its all good Hurray! I didn't mean to seem mad, Deb and Pat. I realize we all have different likes and dislikes when it comes to plants, or anything for that matter. Deb, I think that's great you are taking an interest in the native wildflowers. Group hug

Please let me be the one to apologize for interrupting your conversation about weeds.

Please carry on? nodding Smiling

This is the challenge with a "weeds" or even a "natives" forum. It's a nut so tough I haven't been able to crack it for a very long time. I think the best solution is that a lot of these conversations can occur in the Plant ID forum as well as the regional forums.

What is a weed in Texas is a weed in Texas and we can curse it in the Texas forum, while the people up north or elsewhere don't have to be offended. Green Grin!

Dave, I agree. I've come to learn that a plant some of us here in Florida might consider a despicable weed; folks in another part of the country might consider a priceless plant! Green Grin!

Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing You are not alone! I have little unknowns pop up in containers all the time and leave them for quite awhile until figuring out what they are. Some are definitely considered weeds by my standards but if they are interesting looking they remain. Green Grin!
