I dont scuba, or dive, or anthing that has to do with water... I have a huge water phobia Sad but I'll come over and lurk....safely from a distance Whistling

We don't have the lush greens in Phoenix so we have to do anything it takes! This was at my last house and my favorite place to watch the gorgeous Arizona sunsets.

Anjil, .........Your garden is wonderful!

Becky........I like that 3 tiered bed. I've been thinking about building something like that to plant strawberries in.

John - I actually DID grow Strawberries and Cherry Tomatoes (as ornamentals) in my 3-tiered bed the first year after I built it. The tomatoes didn't do too well. But the strawberries did pretty good. I made the mistake of growing trailing strawberries and they got out of hand. LOL!

I have daylilies in mine now and some other butterfly and hummingbird nectar plants and I am interested to see how it will look in bloom this year!

2 years ago I grew poppies, dill, and all kinds of butterfly plants in it. Here is a photo from that year.

Thanks Susan for the contribution! Neat link you've created there!

Anjl - Is this a new house? The one you had as a vacation home? Looks like you have irises or daylilies planted in that bed. Did you sell your other home where your dh had built all those beautiful arbors and trellises?

Anjl - I am not one bit surprised you have offers on your old home. The garden areas you and your dh built would be a big selling point! How big is the property around the cabin? Looks like you have a LOT of trees there, too! Did the whole family move to the cabin or just you and your dh?

Just DH & I are here, one way to get your grown kids outta the house is to up and move on them Whistling We still have one kid at the old house, he is now scrambling to find a place to live, not here tho! Hilarious! We have just under one acre here, lots bigger than the city home, but here it is all trees and a pretty steep hillside, so we decided long ago that the back half of the property will remain in its natural state. The 'front yard' it tiny, so thats where we put the flagstone patio and irises/roses. BTW that flagstone is from my old yard. I dug up all the flagstone pathway and took out the pond so I could have a patio here! Hilarious!

This was the front yard before we did the grading and patioThumb of 2010-10-15/1AnjL/6861a4

and this one shows where we started doing the grading work. The front yard here is from the house on the right of the pix, to the retaining wall on the left of the pix. I'll have to go snap another pix tomorrow of the completed grading work and iris beds.

OMG! I can't believe you brought all that flagstone with you! Too bad you couldn't bring the beautiful arbors and trellises your dh had built at the old house! Of course, where would you have put them if you had? Your little garden area is really going to be beautiful. I see your patio set! Loved that set! I think you are well on your way to having another pretty little garden paradise at the cabin! As always, you and your dh create some amazing outdoor areas! And I know you did a lot of work on the inside of the cabin over the years! I don't know how the two of you do it!

At the cabin, it appears that you have a lot more shade to work in. I know being out in the sun and heat was a problem for you. I can't wait to see what you do with the cabin! I know it will be amazing! Thumbs up I look forward to future photos!

Thankfully we do have lots of shade here, and it usually stays lots cooler here than down in the bay. We also get snow in the winter Big Grin but the change in garden zones has been a huge learning curve for me Hilarious! I already have 4 or 5 plants I'll need to winter indoors, so scared to buy anything else cuz indoors here is only 1100 sq feet, not like our 1800 sq foot home in the city and no garage here, just a basement that will be full of DHs woodworking stuff. We do plan to add a lower deck and two more rooms in the walkout basement area, but wont start work on that for another year or two. We will also add wood stairs down one side of the house, and cement steps down the other side. Other than that, we wont be doing any other changes...hopefully! Hilarious! I think we are both tired of doing all these projects Whistling
