Impatiens

Impatiens make such a colorful addition to summer gardens and landscapes. They are easy in large planters and pot, providing a good potting mix is used. The mix must be of good quality and well drained. Another requirement is the need for shade, mostly shade, or dappled shade. Rewards of great! This one pictured in the banner is Super Elfinâ"¢ Cherry Splash XP.

That is my very favorite impatiens that I usually have on the front porch every summer, but it's been hard to find seeds for them the last few years for some reason. This year I had to settle for a full pink one, which was nice, but still not the Cherry Splash. Gorgeous banner!

I agree this is beautiful impatiens, we have mostly red, white and pink here. They don't do well in my garden since I have limited shade space.

I have total shade on the west side of the front porch. It's a covered front porch to begin with, but then the 60 year Magnolia tree is about 10' out from the porch, so even though it faces west, it's zero sun. Regular impatiens are the only thing that does well there. New Guineas and SunPatiens might live, but they pretty much stop blooming.

There's 2 hanging planters and 2 30" long planters on the railings, plus 2 on either side of the stairs that you can't see in this photo, but this is the solid pink I've planted last 2 years when I can't find Cherry Splash (this is Xtreme Pink). I also have 1 14" planter in a corner that I use just for testing what might survive there, never any good results though.
