Okay, playing fast and loose with Greek mythology, but it's what the following fascinating (to me) website brought to my mind.
E.g. fungus knat larvae https://www.chaosofdelight.org...

The website was mentioned in the Yahoo news feed this morning. The photos are amazing. I've bookmarked it to read more in depth and look at the amazing photos which include larvae of 'no-see-ums' that are sometimes awful here in some years. Also of nematodes. Not all the creatures in the mesofauna are familiar, so lots of infomation about things you may be walking on and things you've read about but never seen.

"Despite all our achievements, we owe our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains."

The above was quoted on the webpage. It was in quotation marks, but no credit was given so it may or may not be original to the author/macro photographer. I believe it to be true, myself. Exploring space is an incredible achievement, but it won't feed us. I think most folks interested in the subject of this forum will enjoy the webpage photos at minimum and perhaps some of the written info that accompanies it. The main link:

My computer/server/internet is sick at the moment, but the topic sounds well worth study. I hope I can open the links eventually. Thanks.
