Thread OP

hello everyone ,
i`m amatuer person from a poor country and i was searching for cheap materials to build the frame of my greenhouse . because materials as PVC pipes, metal pips, wood are expensive.

accedently i saw an image of metal racks while i was surfing facebook, then i got an idea to use the metal rods in my greenhouse.

i called a local supplier of the rods and i got the following information:
-these rods are called "slotted angle"
- every rod is 2 meters long , and you can request more length.
-thickness of metal is 1.5 mm and it is enough to hold moderate weights.
-rods are gelvanized (so they are protected against rust)

i asked him about the price ,and i was shocked when i knew it costs only 4 US dollars for every one hundred rods.

i called another local supplier and the cost was the same cheap.

i imagined to use these 100 rods to build my greenhouse, and i draw a sketch to illustrate my idea.

i hope to hear your opinion about the problems that i will face in this model.

i`m afraid the sharp metal angles will tear apart the plastic cover of green house, but i can buy tonns of cheap cloth to cover these angles and make it soft.

I wonder if you need 38 more rods in the center—otherwise the orange wire will bow toward the ground.

Hi @coniferr and welcome! Welcome!

Sounds very ingenious if you can make it happen. I would be interested in hearing/seeing your progress as you move ahead.

Like Mad Planter said i think you need at least 4 supports for the wire acting as a ridge beam to keep roof from sagging.

That greenhouse is huge. I don't think that material will stand up to the wind on a structure that big.
