hello!

about a month ago i planted 9 alocasia piccolini corms and i'm happy to report they have all sprowted! however, one of them has the tiniest baby leaf but no roots ☹️

anyone has tips on how i can root this little guy? they've been planted in sphagnum moss in a little prop box and just recently i took off the lid because they all got too tall, and i've been keeping the moss damp. all the other ones have rooted like crazy.

thanks!

Once an alocasia is dormant and makes a corm, that corm is like a bulb. It contains everything the plant needs to send up a new shoot. They shoot first, root later. Just put it in a very small container of soil. At that size I would start it out in a 2" container. Something the size of a Dixie cup. Once it's rooted and growing you can start stepping it up

That is weird. When I harvest sprouted forms out of my pots of mature plants they never have roots

that's crazy! wonder if that's because of the location difference? where i am is hot pretty much all year 😅

but i'm glad to know that i can save this little guy just by planting him 🙏🏼

here's a picture of a corm that's just starting to shoot, but the root system was the first thing it put out. also, a leaf size comparison between the corm that sprouted with no roots and the ones that rooted before sprouting.
