I can't wait to find out what this is Janice. It kind of looks like an immature grasshopper, yet doesn't. It sure has some well developed back legs.
Love this photo.

This must not be my day. I believe I finally found your insect on the net and clicked on the photo for an identification. The page led me to a photographer's page but the insect is not named Rolling on the floor laughing

To be sure, is this your guy?

I am going to have to quit looking today but will pick back up tomorrow if no one else identifies him first. I think I might be on the right track but this guy is proving to be quite the challenge Big Grin

Janice - your guess was better than mine! It appears to be a Katydid nymph. I'll try to find this one specifically but am 99% sure that you were on the right trail!!!

Although many of the Katydid.scudderia aka Scudderia furcata are brighter than this guy, I found several photos where the nymph had the identical coloring that your Katydid sports. I also found that another common name for him (or her) is the "dancing fork-tailed bush katydid".

BTW, your photograph is absolutely incredible!! No matter how much I enlarged it, it remained absolutely crystal clear and the layout of it is beautiful.

I hope the identification helps - and, again, thank you so much for resetting me with your cricket suggestion and putting me back on track.

Hurray! Great work of research you two. Hurray! Hurray!
I will be on the look out for this guy.
Most species probably favor foliage of broad-leaved woody deciduous plants, but probably will feed on a variety of other plants. Often (especially nymphs) seen feeding on flowers of assorted, often herbaceous plants. Right were yours was found Janice.

Oh, thank you! That's my friend, Ed. He found his way home when he was all of 3-4 weeks old as a very ill, feral, skeleton of a kitten and he is now my constant companion. He is really quite the remarkable being!
