The standards look so tiny! Is this normal for this variety to do this? It reminds me of Iris ensata.

This variety has pronounced spontaneous polymorphism. Therefore, it often turns out to be like a flat iris.

For this variety, the beginning of flowering always looks like this. Then towards the middle of flowering it is almost standard. :)

I agree, that is very cool! It is a lovely bloom, too, with that delicate contrasting veining. Thumbs up

There is another variety. Here in the photo you can see that many flowers of this variety have a truncated shape.
