I found a huge planter of this particular variety in 2016 at Chicago Botanic Garden but I didn't get the name tag with it and I've been looking for it on and off since then. I can find plenty varieties with the right foliage but not together with the multi-colored flowers. Does anyone have any idea which variety this is? I'd love to get some if I can ID it.

Maybe Tropicana Gold?

That's got to be it, thank you! Adding to my list now so I'll never forget the name! Hilarious!

I was going to suggest comparing to Canna (Canna x generalis Tropicanna® Gold) and also Canna Lily (Canna 'Pretoria')

I had looked through so many of them, include Pretoria kept popping up on my searches, but the flowers weren't bi-colored. I found one image of Tropicanna Gold that I missed because it came from Pinterest (which I hate so I just skip over those usually useless results).

If you like this type, You can have all of mine. They are beautiful, but the grasshoppers think I plant them for their feasts.
Maybe it takes a long time to grow, but remember that if nobody plants it, nobody has it.

I don't see grasshoppers too often on any of the plants here, and it's a lone one here and there, so I definitely wouldn't have that problem. I usually plant some in a mixed container each year and rebuy a new type each year. But this year I'm going to give them their own container so it's hopefully easier to get them out without damaging them.

Always amazed at how hardy they are, had a Stuttgart packed in a container, not much growth. Pulled it out, had to use a knife to cut the roots apart, the plant grew like crazy, lots of new stalks and flowers!

They do very well in containers for me, and the hummers love the flowers. When I try to remove them though, I always manage to break the tubers into small pieces where I'm not sure if there's an eye for growth. I give it a try every year and when I look at the broken up pieces, I end up tossing them.
