I'm doing my first flower garden this year and I'm wondering if Forget Me Nots and Alyssum grow well together. I also attached a photo of the flowers I'm thinking about planting.

Any other recommendations for first time gardeners in my zone are welcome and appreciated!

Unfortunately Delphinium don't tolerate the heat here.
Autumn planted annual delphinium (Larkspur) do fine.

The other stuff has different planting times and different flowering times.

I don't think I would interplant the forget me nots with the alyssum.
Forget me nots tend to be seedy and spread.
Alyssum Wasn't a fan of the heat... seems like I might have gotten a bloom... and then... nada.

Seems like I may need to go buy some different seeds! The area I'm planting in does get late afternoon shade though. Thanks for the advice @stone!

Look for zinnas. Easy to grow and will bloom from early summer until frost.

I'd plant what you have... I'm just trying to give you an idea of what to expect.
fr instance, the daisies, probably won't bloom until next year, and will remain very small seedlings for months!

There's lots of different salvia, and some are great... some may not be so hot...

balloon flowers?
I don't have that much experience with, but usually set them out as plants...

the nasturtiums?
usually planted after the last frost...
and what I meant about different planting times.

Novice flower gardeners usually just purchase a bag of mixed "wildflower" seed and get great blooms...

but those wildflower mixes tend to play out over time... requiring us to add in seed as they show up...

like... maybe you could find some poppies to plant now before it gets warm...
(not perennial) But like bread seed or corn poppies...

The zinnia mentioned are nice, but need to be planted after last frost...
And blackeyed susan are nice but need an autumn planting...

If you have any friends with flowers, that's a nice way to get dependable seed...

Consider trying some of each in small pots and carefully observe and take pics of the baby plants so you can recognize them in the garden.
Happens a lot that one digs up a new garden spr, throws in seed, and then existing weedy seeds grow and you don't know what is what. However, weeds come up everywhere and your chosen seeds will usually look different in fine details and will Only be where you planted.
Plant it and they will come.

I am not in your zone but I find cosmos come up well If you like tall pink wispy flowers
And bachelor buttons self sow, are in the colors you seem to like, and are an easy annual.

Yeah... but, you can't plant bachelor buttons at the same time as cosmos...

around here, you would plant the bachelor buttons in the Autumn...
In North Carolina, you could probably get away with sowing them now.

The cosmos, you would wait until last frost.

Where are these annuals going to be planted? The sulphur orange cosmos I grow can get up to six feet tall, but there are some dwarf cosmos that only gets 18-24" tall. I love cosmos because it draws the butterflies and bees.

Zinnias are a great choice for first time gardeners.

I got a package of 'Becky' shasta daisies about 20 years ago and they are still a beautiful clump, but it did take a few years for them to become showy. Well worth the wait.

Your garden is beautiful! I planned to plant my annuals in my front flowerbed. It gets about 8 hours of sun and one side gets a few hours of afternoon shade.
