ALL of these photos are INCORRECT except for the 2 uploaded by user: growitall
Sighing!
MOST are Caputia scaposus (formerly Senecio scaposus) and one is Senecio blue chalksticks!! This needs to be reviewed and corrected.

Yes, I agree most of the images belong with the entry for Caputia.

Kleintontelbos (Caputia scaposa)

I think these images are currently misfiled because of a taxonomic confusion relating to an ambiguous synonym. When the name Senecio scaposus was retired, (most of) the images associated with that entry apparently ended up in the wrong place.

Here is where the new combination was published in 2012.

https://www.biodiversitylibrar...

The Catalogue of Life treats this combination as an ambiguous synonym for Senecio scaposus

https://www.catalogueoflife.or...

I'm not sure why it favors the Packera instead (I don't know the basis for that association)

https://www.catalogueoflife.or...

but that is a very different plant, from a different continent, though it is very closely related. Some quick info here:

https://www.calflora.org/app/t...

As for how the database should handle the synonyms (to whatever extent they may be ambiguous), I will leave that up to the higher powers to decide. Smiling

For what it's worth, these are the images that need to be moved to the Caputia scaposa entry:

To the members who contributed these images: A quick heads up that these images will be moving to another entry. If you have any input here, just say the word.

Thank You!

I think the problem is that the name Senecio scaposus was published twice and is associated with two different botanists: Senecio scaposus DC (de Candolle) and Senecio scaposus A. Nelson. Senecio scaposus DC is the basionym of Caputia scaposa (DC) and therefore shouldn't be termed "ambiguous" by the CoL. Nelson's Senecio scaposus is the synonym of Packera werneriifolia.

If you agree that this was a case of confusion. I will edit the two entries, removing the name as a synonym from the Packera entry and adding it as a synonym to the Caputia entry. I can then move all of the photos but growitall's and the blue chalksticks to the Caputia scaposa entry, but you'll have to tell me which one is the blue chalksticks.

While I was typing, Baja identified the photos to be moved, so I'll do that now.

Well, that was lovely. By the time I had figured out the problem, Baja had already submitted many dandy proposals to handle the moves and edits. Thank you, Baja.
