Are the shoots growing in a location in which you might expect peony - like a flower bed? If not knotweed would seem more likely.

I wouldn't know really. We finished buying the property in january. Most of it was horribly over with wild clematis(fetalba), and some unknown shrubs. Some of the garden you see emerging(hyacinths and daffodils). Some of it is still unknown, and I am trying to figure out what is what(trees, shrubs, herbs)
