I am so glad to see some of you joining HIPS. I am a member there and a member of my local iris society. Our membership is very slim only like 15 members or so in our region. I have not been able to attend a meeting yet because of scheduling conflicts but am excited to do so this year. (Our meetings are in September)

Lori -- I'm wondering if your #2 and #4 could be *Jazz Festival*. Here's a photo of mine:

I only have the one picture, and it's not a great one, but I do see similarities.

I agree Joining HIPS is a good thing! as is joining the AIS, Re blooming Soc., whatever. There are several, so whatever your particular iris "addiction" is, there's a group that caters to it ! (nice magazines, too!) Membership, at least to my way of thinking, is inexpensive, and there's lots of info, tips, pics, etc. to be had .Check it out!...Arlyn

Median Iris Society for our particular addiction. ☺

I'm not sure how many there are? There's Historics, Medians .Species, TBs, Arils, LAs, SIBs. Are there more you can think of, Lucy? Anyway, there is one (or more !) for every iris taste! There are LOTS of benefits, rhizome sales, seed sales, shows, etc. ...Arlyn

It's great to read that several of you are new HIPS members. A brief plug: Be sure to fill out and send that survey of what you grow when you get your new member packets. Or have a look at the thread "Call for data" under "Society Issues" in the members' forum at the HIPS website and send me an email.

Arlyn--The list of "Sections" on the AIS website has these others: Spuria Iris Society, Society for Japanese Irises, Reblooming Iris Society, Dwarf Iris Society, and Society for Pacific Coast Native Irises. Hmmm. Makes me wonder where the bulbous iris lovers are . . . .

Mary Ann, that is a great place to start with my NOID, thank you.

Brett, until just this month I have not really grown any historics so I never filled out the survey. Actually, I think when I joined I had nothing but NOIDs. Is there something I should go back and do now?

To be useful, the databank will need to be updated as time passes, so the answer is yes, please send me a list of the historics that you're currently growing and that you are sure of the identities for. I'll be periodically making pleas for people to update their information, but I also intend to accept and incorporate new information whenever people feel like sending it. So if you would rather wait until next year's bloom season to be sure that what you're growing is what you *think* you're growing, that's fine.

Thanks,
Brett
