Thank You! Oscar - this is mostly their second year since germination. Tree peony seeds much appreciated but as I haven't got into dividing the new tree peony seedlings I have I will reluctantly have to pass on your offer Sad
This is one of my favourite tree peony seedling, from Yachiyo Tsubaki -

Gorgeous seedling, Val! You have an amazing collection of baby seedlings! I can't wait to see them grow and bloom in the future. They look like they are advanced generation hybrids.

Thanks Jasmin. I think the snip below might explain Nate's peony breeding philosophies better than I can;

I got quite a lot of his seeds a few years ago at the Convention in Ames, Iowa.

Thanks Val for finding that explanation. I kinda know what it means but can't explain very well the concept of "advanced generation hybrids". I also want to add that the advanced generation hybrids contain genes from multiple species of the herbaceous peony. As a result, you get breakthroughs in newer colors, earlier blooming time, and stem strength.

Who will bloom first in my garden this year? In the past, it was usually between the Black Dragon and Hoki. This year the buds are somewhat weird. Perhaps because they have received lots of rain water, the buds are full. They haven't started showing the colour yet, but they are showing inner petals that are still green. It's as if the buds are bursting below the outer protective sepals.

Nevertheless, this year it might be either Snow Lotus (Rockii) or Colourful Butterfly (Central Planes) Crossing Fingers! The TPs might be really early this year. I cannot believe they will start blooming before my Yellow Bird magnolia Confused The pink magnolias are finishing blooming over here, so do magnolias stellata. Yellow Birds blooms just after them.

I can tell that there are some frost damages, but I hope there will be enough buds. That pink NOID, probably Paeonia Lactiflora has been damaged the most. This one is very early; it started waking up together with TPs. I believe that all buds were lost during that sudden polar vortex Crying
