I think I'm in love.....
.....with my new seed saver box.

I have used various methods to save seeds over the years including lunch baggies categorized by vegetable/flower types, and I just sent back a large binder with photo pages because the seed packets wanted to slip out of those pesky sleaves.

After sending back the binder and photo sheets, this plastic storage box with 16 smaller 4" x 6" x 1" locking boxes was delivered within the past hour. Rainy day, I tore into it!

It comes with each of the 16 boxes wrapped in their own plastic bags. Great to keep them clean if not using them. Also includes a sheet of 44 stickers to use on the boxes...more than enough. Here are my tomatoes and peppers in boxes.

This picture shows the little latches on the boxes.

And here are the first two boxes with stickers. BTW, there are 10 packets of tomato seeds in that tomato box and a handful of pepper packets in the pepper boxes.

This will provide more than enough room for my seeds in a very organized way. My OCD thanks Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C8YSWDR/

I am going to store this in the basement where it is dark 99.9999% of the time and I have heat, AC, and a dehumidifier. If you look around one company offers a similar box that is black to keep the light out.

Remember light, heat, and moisture are no-no's when saving seeds. Notice those Rapunzel tomatoes on top are from 2017 and they were still germinating last year. Sure they would this year too if I planted them.

That is a great system to keep your seeds. Is the box sold specifically for seed keeping or was it for some other purpose? I should look into this. As it is now I have several plastic Bella containers with lids and the packets are all just thrown in making it time consuming for me to find what I want because I have to dig through everything.

It is actually for holding 4x6 pictures, but I read some of the questions and reviews, and others are using it for seed packets as well.

Jim, your recommendation is making me think I really need to use this system... I'm wondering about things like bean and pea seeds, though - would one packet take up an entire box?

Depends on the size of the seed packs. The individual boxes are 4 x 6 x 1. I would say you could put 3-4 standard size seed packs (3.25 x 4.5) of beans/peas in a box, maybe more if you fold or rolls the packs down so the seeds are all in one place in the pack and put them in like hot dogs in a package. I have a few "oversized" bean packets that may be as much as 1" thick. If they do not fit or take up too many boxes once I am done sorting, I will throw those in the old wooden box I used to use for seeds.

Spoke about my new seed storage case a few weeks ago in this forum. I did the tomato and pepper seeds, and then it sat in my living room for almost a month with two small boxes full of seeds. Today, since I am on restricted movement, I decided to take everything out to the back deck, extend the awning, and get this task done since I am about finished with seeds until late summer.

This was "the mess".

They hold a lot. Here is the tomato box. 14 packets of seeds, some open, some not open yet.

Finished!

Where? Amazon. They have a few colors/styles besides this one if interested.
