Hi guys this is my second spider plant that my husband bought for me. I killed the first one because I over watered them then this second one I was very careful and not doing much on him because I am so scared that I will kill another one again lol but lately I noticed that this second spider plant leaves can't stand on his own, its very droopy and snaps near the base of the plant, but it seems there are new sprouts of leaves emerging, I gave it a little bit of plant food last week and then left it near the window, its getting moderate sunlight though so I am lost and I am just wondering what I am doing wrong. Why he's not happy? What should I do to make the leaves stronger and sturdier? And one more thing, their leaves looks pale and felt like so soft Pls. help, I would appreciate, I love plants and I am very happy if I will successfully grow one. Thank you all!

Did you repot it? It looks planted a little deep which would explain leaves falling out of the base. True, they don't need much water. If you will notice, it keeps it's own water supply in the soil. Mine grow well in shade as well as light, mottled sun.

No I didn't re pot it. Are you suggesting re potting?

Try repotting it. There may not be enough soil from the original planting. You will see their root system and water storage is pretty extensive.

Take a look under the leaves and be sure there are no little brown things on it. Scale sometimes causes them to look droopy because the scale mother lays the eggs and when they hatch they suck the life out of the leaf as they grow. The brown little shellsof the older scale stay on the leaves otherwise you can not see the babies. I found some on my spider not too long ago and they spread quickly so be sure it is not them.

I find mine are happier when they are in low light and on the dry side, once they perk up they can take some sun and some water. I also leave mine get really pot bound and Cheryl has a point, do not plant it too deep in the pot if you decide to repot it. Please keep us posted on how things are going.

Is it currently in the plastic pot or the coir lined pot?

Hi Angelica, I grow my spider plants outdoors, and during summer they want more watering, since our summers are really hot and dry. My plants are either in hanging baskets or on big containers and they just thrive there, loving it more when they are pot bound. Looking at your plants, to me they seem thirsty. But do check the roots to see how they are. They can survive full sun but really likes getting shaded.

Just showing you here how my spider plants roots looked like when I have repotted them one time, you can see they have such thick roots that ably holds water. But even then, I keep them really well hydrated during our hot summertime weather.

I have several different varieties of spider and I agree they love to be pot bound, at least mine do. I have plain green, variegated and reverse variegated. Someone just sent me one they call Curley. They look the same as the variegated but are real curley. I began with one little plant and that plant must be 10 years old. I thought it would die several times but it is still going strong. Here is a pic of it

To Tarev: I grow mine indoors since we live in an apartment building, I usually place him near our window sill then sometimes I put him inside on top of our fridge. I re pot him yesterday and I don't saw roots as big as like yours in the photo, I saw tiny ones on my plant. I separated them in three and now I just need to wait if they will thrive. Does spider plants hate air conditioning? I also followed the advice that I should water them only every two weeks or wait until the soil is dry, my first spider plant died because of over watering, I got so excited and water it everyday until I saw it turned brown at its base, but fortunately I saved a little bit of the plant and now he's having new leaves sprouting :-)

That looks like the type of hanging pot that doesn't have a hole at the true bottom surface, but recessed about 1/2 inch above that, which allows for 1/2 inch of standing water. I'd say put a hole in the true bottom of the pot, more light if possible. Haven't had a plant die in one of these pots since I started putting "real holes."

Spider plant leaves should be more upright. Frustratingly, once they bend and fold, they won't stand upright again.

Great pic, Tarev! Those water-storage roots can't tolerate muddy-ness, or standing water.

I also have one spider plant indoors, but I used a different set-up to grow it, just to see if it will thrive in it. I was also trying to revive a Dracaena, that's the other stick showing in the container. Knowing the roots like to drink a lot of water but also needs to be allowed to go dry so it will not rot, I grew this one in semi-hydro. Using a plastic container with two holes an inch from the bottom, so there is a reservoir of water below and the excess flows out. My media are hydroton clay rocks and gel beads. And I hate fungus gnats, so I like this set-up. You can maybe try this method if it will work. This plant just gets bright light, no direct sun and grows near my phal orchids. As I have said our summers here are so dry and hot, so indoors, I have a table fountain running near my orchids, so it also helps the spider plant, with our ceiling fan running the whole day. Sometimes I run our AC, but not always too expensive.

I've killed many air plants and succulents that I've gotten from nurseries, and tried getting this mini spider plant as I heard it doesn't die easily. I'm really worried as I've no idea if it's too dark, too bright, or too moist as I keep shifting the plant. It's been wilting from bottom up, and at first new leaves would grow while the wilted leaves die, so I thought it was fine, but now the newest leaf is also wilting. I'm really afraid that I would kill another one. The leaves also have some bubbles on them. Like uneveness in the shape of circles. Here is a few pics where I put it currently. Please help. Thanks😊

I'm afraid that your plant is dead and will not recover. Without knowing more about its overall care, it is not possible to say why it died.

Some general advice that may or may not be applicable: Keep your plants in their plastic nursery pots. Provide lots of sunlight. Water only when the top half-inch or so of soil is dry and then water thoroughly.
