I grow a lot of large containers of Gloriosa tubers (usually 1 or 200 tubers every summer. Got them outside after repotting in basement during May. First blooms are starting to manifest. Soon the hummingbirds should establish territories. Their subsequent interactions are an interesting study.Thumb of 2013-06-28/jmorth/f92a9e Thumb of 2013-06-28/jmorth/a389c1

Love mine, too. I planted mine inground this year, with a trellis, hoping they'd increase more than in the pots of last summer, but I plan to dig them up before frost again. They've been blooming throughout June, happy plants!

Sigh, I drool over those, but there are only so many plants I can overwinter here!

Mine have been blooming too. Wow, 200 tubers! What a sight that would be!

Here's yield of a few large pots from May last year ('12); somewhere I've a pic of total yield from 12 pots or so, if I can find it I'll post it.Thumb of 2013-07-02/jmorth/b14434

Wow! You are serious about those guys, aren't you! Wow again. I'd be jealous if I didn't know that there's no way I could keep them alive here. Smiling They are beautiful plants!

J - they are so pretty. The last picture looks a lot like mine, and I think of you every time I have a new bloom. Thanks so much for getting me hooked on them. I can't wait to see how mine increased after this summer. I tried them inground this year, just wanted to see if it made a difference. They seem to be very happy and every day there are new blooms, so maybe I did something right.

Those are stunning! I've just barely started getting into them .. I love how the tips of the leaves act like tendrils!

Gorgeous jm...
I've had these for a couple years, but I don't know what is going on this summer.
In spring, I toog the pot out, checked for the corms, everything looked alright, planted them back but all the tiny plants that come out just die.
I am thinking too much water?
I think I'm gonna dig in the pot and see what I bump into.
I love this plant and I really thought it was care-free...

When re-planting did you place tubers horizontally two inches below soil? Mine are usually watered once daily, containers they're in have excellent drainage (some sand added to soil mix and a lot of popcorn peanuts in each pot's bottom. (peanuts help facilitate fall movement of containers from outside to basement).
I overwinter mine completely dry in that year's container in my basement. Repot each spring (usually).

I think so... (horizontally).
Pot - clay, thick walls, kinda big... but i am not sure what big is for these.
I am thinking too much water.
I also mix in sand.
