That could be what is commonly referred to as a ZZ plant - Zamioculcas zamiifolia. If so it wants full shade.

I'm going with Hetty's guess/smarts. ZZ plant can be quite regal-looking with arching branches and dark shiny green leaves. I had never seen one the first 40 years of my life and then they were all over the nurseries.

I agree with Hetty and Bev..it is an aroid type of plant - ZZ plant. I have one growing indoors, very active grower right now, low light, and I water only once a week, but it can go without longer, will not mind it. It does have that very thick rhizomatous roots, which holds water, that's why it survives best with less watering. I have posted my plant when I got it in the Aroid forum. I love its shiny leaves. First saw this plant in a mall near us. Lost the bet that it was real. Looks so plastic like. Is it a slow grower?

Right now my plant is actively growing, maybe it slows down when temps are cooler, so appearing like slow growing. Has just made 7 new leafing stalks since I had it last May 2013.

Thank you so very much! :D The bulb seems to have deflated now... any idea why?

It maybe thirsty? When was it last watered? Or...sometimes, I notice with plants, one part deflates or seems to dwindle a bit, because it is redirecting its energy to another growth maybe like preparing for new leaves..or more roots. Smiling
