Hello Newbie here!
My area has been blessed with way too much rain! I have the feeling we are turning into a tropical area if this weather keeps up.
My plants have been attacked by Earwigs and a few other things. Until now I been keeping them at bay.
Below is a few pics of the Earwigs.
Any info you can share on things that worked for you will be appreciated.





Looking to stop or slow the party the Earwigs are having with my daylilies blooms!

They even made beds in the blooms!

I have sprayed them with soaps and Meem Oils



What more do you think I should do... Thanks in advance for your much appreciated information.




I been good about keeping everything clean !

I get them too but I don't do anything with them, just leave them alone. They don't seem to do all that much damage. I have tons of praying mantis this year so I don't want to spray for fear of killing them.

At my old place I had garden centipedes really bad; found lots inside the house daily. I had to spray the perimeter of the house to get them under control, this took care of the earwigs also. I never had a problem with the earwigs even though I had lots of those as well; they stayed off of my plants and stayed down in the mulch.
I sprayed the mulched areas and beds around the house with Bayer Complete Insect Killer for Soil and Turf.

I know some people don't like to use chemicals but this is what worked for me. If I wouldn't have had a problem with the centipedes I wouldn't have bothered the earwigs.

I found out today I have earwigs worse than I have ever seen before in my plants too. They are really ruining the blooms.

It is so wet here, nothing can dry out.

We are not getting an inch of rain then it waits till the next day to rain again. It rains, then stop, then rains, then stops all day, so it has stayed damp or wet nearly all the time.

It is so discouraging.

Cindy, I am seeing lots of young praying mantis, too. I had wanted to spray again for the second time a few weeks ago because I was beginning to see thrip damage. I am not seeing much thrip damage now. Just maybe the praying mantis are taking care of the thrips. I have not seen any earwig damage yet. We have been in a rainy period and have remained damp. If this pattern were to continue, I will be watching for earwigs. I do see centipedes on the spent blooms that I sometimes throw down in the edge of the beds until I come back to pick them up (when I don't have a bucket with me).

I've noticed the earwigs more this year. I've seen a few spots of damage here and there but nothing I've been concerned about. I did not notice them when I sprayed with the bayer 3 in 1 for aphids in the spring so that may be an option but it will take out a lot of other things in the garden as well.

Thanks so much ... for your input! I had these plants in a number of years and never had to bother the Earwigs before, because I did not see any damage enough to worrying about.
NOW This is way beyond anything I've EVER had before.
There are so many they are eating my blooms. On my smaller Daylilies they destroyed all the blooms! They are gone! My larger plants they are working on now. Like Daylily said it is the rain, if it is not off and on rain we are getting, it is HEAVY RAIN instead. We barely have enough time to cut the grass here. Flash flood warnings all the time now. It sure is wet for July!

I have had an unusual number of ant nests in the beds too. Tiny ones that BITE !! I don't think they are bothering the daylilies though.

I don't mean to complain about the rain... We have had so many years lately with below normal rain and drought last year that was pretty bad.

We had drought last year too but I feel for you Juli because it has rained here every day for 2 weeks now.

I saw these tonight when removing blooms and not sure if they're assasin bug nymphs.

Haven't a clue what they are, but hopefully they are good bugs! ~Jan

Those look more like the Leaf-Footed Bug Nymph. If you google the images for it you will see lots of different species but there are the ones that look like yours. The ones I have seen are the red or red-orange ones.

You're so right and as soon as I saw the picture of eggs on this site it looked very familiar.

Here's a photo from last year and I had no idea what is was. Saw it again on foliage last week.



Vivian, I have never seen so many earwigs as I have this year. We had 14" of rain and a few hail storms, followed by horrid humidity. Every earwig on the east coast crawled over to my garden and brought along bugs I've never seen. Blooms are all chewed up, foliage shredded by hail and the mosquitoes start attacking at 6:30 am.

Sorry to hear you guys are in the same boat! Around these parts we sure have had some strange July weather. In my years I can't ever recall a July this wet.

Earwigs are in my Green Throated Robin, and are chewing it up some, but so far are staying out of my other daylilys - or I haven't found them yet
