You can now add your own custom links to the floating blue menu bar. Here is how to do it:

Go to your profile (linked from the menubar).

Then click on "Change your site preferences"

Then at the bottom, click on "Manage your custom menubar"

Then just follow the screen's instructions.

You can add links to anywhere you want and those links will appear in the menu bar of every page on the site. It only affects your own menu bar and nobody else can see your links. You can link to private stuff and you can even link to other websites. But remember, nobody else sees it so this is just a convenience thing for you.

I'm using it to add special links to special admin-only areas. Moderators can use it to make special links directly to their own database areas.

You might use it to make a custom link that goes directly to the Daylilies database, or the Roses forum, or what-have-you.

Experiment and have fun. Remember that if you add too many links, the menubar will get full and then it'll go to the next link and the format will break terribly. So try to keep the names as short as possible.

That is really a great idea. I may even be able to do that. I will certainly give it a try. Thanks Dave. Thumbs up

This is the best time saver ever! Hurray!

I now have custom links to the search pages of four major taxonomic databases. This is so, so, so convenient!

Ha. I'm trying to narrow my medicinal wildflower links down to only a few.
Best ever, for sure!

Sharon, you can add lots of them as long as you abbreviate the titles. You might have to keep a list nearby to keep track of how you abbreviated them, however. Big Grin

I also added one for our database, Lin. It will save some time and energy, for sure.

Zu - think I'll stick with wildflowers for the moment so now I need to go back in and edit 'wildflowers' to WF. Sure hope I can edit those titles.

I agree I'd been wishing for a link to the database so as not to have to scroll back to the top. I put *Bing* up there too. Green Grin!

Ok, how do we delete one ... I put both Google and Bing on my menu bar but really only need one. I've tried deleting one but it's still showing.

What I did was pretty goofy anyway. I wrote out 'wildflowers' in the first two bars. Then I went back in and changed them to an abbreviation - which added two more bars. So now I have 4 bars that lead to the same two sites.

Going to stop now while I'm ahead.
I should have waited for delete instructions anyway. Sad

I'm all ears!
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others.

To delete one of them, just go manage the menu bar icons as always, then blank out the name and URL of the one you want deleted. When you save your changes it'll remove it.

Did that, Dave, and it isn't working for me. They are still remaining.

I even restarted the computer; logged out of ATP; logged back in; did it all over again but nothing goes away.
Saved everything as I made changes, but nothing is changing.

Hmm ... it's not deleting it. I highlighted the url and wiped it out and then clicked on save changes but it's still showing up. Sometimes "easy" is hard for my ole' brain. What am I doing wrong? *Blush*
