Charlene, I should have known you would have a plant with a name like this. I had to look in just to see what it is all about. Hope your flock, four legged friends etc. are all well and happy. Barney was sick, but is better now and misses talking to your gang. I am so glad you have plants so I can still keep in touch. I do not have gout nor do I have a gout plant. It looks like you have it outside, in fact both you and Lee. Does it have an odor, like a foot? Well, gout, foot, what do you expect from someone from New Jersey. Rolling on the floor laughing

It's O.K. Jersey girl, I learned to love you and your critters too. The plant has no smell that I can detect, Just the pretty orange blooms.

I'll have to go check to see if it has opened any more little flowewrs. Glad you like it JB. I got it at a nursery down here. I knew I had to have it. It dwindles down to one or two leaves in winter and I don't water it much as it does have a thick body much like a desert Rose which I have too.

No Lee's plant is not a gout plant. It is plant that popped up when he planted some seeds I sent him. I don't know if he used potting soil or not. but that seed came from somewhere. The leaves are a soft velvety feel to them. I'be seen the get about 3' tall in the pasture. Little did I know how he got it...

Did you ever decide what the mystery plant was? If it grows in a pasture, it could be mullein. That's a pretty, fuzzy plant and gets 3 or 4 ft. tall.

Actually, it looks a lot like Velvetleaf: Abutilon theophrasti. It has really cool seed pods, but is a real thug, especially in pastures and gardens.
In the end, only kindness matters.

Science is not the answer, it is the question.

The gout plant is interesting. I've never heard of such a plant before. It has been many, many years since I was even near a plant shop, plant department, or nursery. I'll have to try to get to a plant something somewhere place eventually.

I know that Melon plants/ines are fuzzy and some have yellow flowers. Also squash vines/plants have fuzzy leaves and I seem to remember yellow flowers. Who knows, it may produce a water melon! Oh, cucumbers are fuzzy plant/vine with something flowers. This is an unsolved mystery!

Audrey I believe it was the Velvet leaf plant, Sheryl named for us.
I'm ready to put my Gout plant back outside. It has bloomed all winter long. I'm worried about it blooming itself to death....

Can you plant it in the ground? Or do you have to leave it in a pot?

I've never put it in the ground. I'm sure it would freeze in the fall. I will put it out under the shade tree and maybe it will sprout leaves...
