I want to make stepping stones out of cut up plate pieces. What is the best way to cut the plates? I've ordered a wheeled glass cutter which seems to be the most popular choice. I have a wet saw in my basement but don't have a clue about how to use it to cut a plate. I've also read about using a "ring cutter" which looks like a little band saw-but costs around $300. What advice can you guys give me?
Thanks,
Deb

Are you looking to cut specific shapes, sort of like a planned mosaic? If not, I'd just drop them on a hard surface and see what you get.

I don't want a shattered look-more like the original plate with grout in between the pieces. Not sure if that make sense Smiling

So, like a flattened plate, intact except in pieces? I'd find some experimental free plates and work with your wet saw to see if that is the ticket. We built our house in the 80s and used a lot of tile throughout, cutting it all by hand (not always so successfully). When we recently did a small remodel, we rented a wet saw tile cutter and I was astounded at how much simpler that was. Live and learn I guess.

Thanks! I'll give it a try. You're right, live and learn Smiling That's why we have the tile saw-to tile our bathroom floor....on ongoing project that's been waiting for us for quite a while.......

I have a few old Blue Willow plates that I thought would make a pretty art stepping stone. Does anyone have pics or links to some that are finished?

Very pretty, I like the ones that you can buy because it looks like the squares would be easier to use. Or you could at least get them closer. A mosaic gazing ball is another project I am thinking about.

I have so many projects that I want to do before Spring lol.
