The leaves on the Portulaca oleracea are also much smaller in size than the Kleinia and do tend to have a bit more of a prostrate habit. My Kleinia petraea (Trailing Jade) leaves are solid green when grown in shade, the leaves get the bluish/purple margins when grown with more sunlight. My Trailing Jade has never bloomed so I'm not sure what the buds or flowers look like.

From the database, side by side .. well, I couldn't get them to show up side by side but this shows the two separate plants and in gingin's photo, the Portulaca shows purplish leaf margins too.

Portulaca oleracea and Kleinia petraea:

When I said purslane I didn't mean wild, but rather a purslane that I got at Home Depot....all the tag said was purslane.

Ginger: That's probably P. grandiflora; at least that's what I usually see for sale at our HD's around here.

Well it would be a lot easier if Shannie could provide a few more pics, with some closeups... right?

Janet: Lovey dubby Once again I have to say Thank You so much for your input regarding plant characteristics and identification! Thumbs up

I've had Purslane & Moss Rose confused and because of this thread I've been going back and forth looking at all sorts of photo's of Portulaca! If P. grandiflora is the one with the thinner leaves ... I, and a couple of other people have our photo's at the wrong entry in the database.

Moss Rose (Portulaca grandiflora)

Common Purslane (Portulaca oleracea)

I thought Portulaca oleracea only had yellow flowers but I guess not as there are different colors listed in the database for that one:

http://garden.org/plants/searc...

I need to submit a proposal to have my photo's moved from P. grandiflora to P. oleracea!

Lin, you're welcome. First though, check your entries for P. oleracea as they look to have opposite leaves. According to the site I linked to above, P. oleracea has alternate leaves which would seem to be correct.

http://www.flowersofindia.net/...

However, this edu. site gives a good description and it says it has both alternate and opposite. It also says the flowers are yellow, different colours are likely to be varieties.
